me: “it’s kinda sad that my blorbo is so unpopular and disliked and hardly has any fans at all :( i wish he was more popular :(”

me: sees how people who draw popular characters from New Very Popular Thing get ruthlessly scrutinized and harassed and dogpiled by thousands of people for every tiniest bit of alleged misstep and accused of horrible things just for depicting a character in a way someone else doesn’t agree with

me: “nevermind this is actually pretty nice”

Give everyone UBI and free housing/internet/health care.

Use AI to do all the jobs that don’t need humans.

Stop using AI to create art of all kinds.

I didn’t sign up for a world where AI gets to “create” (aka. steal from human artists) while humans have to work shitty low-wage jobs that can easily be done by AI. I want off this ride.

Don’t put people’s novels, fic, or writing into ChatGPT either.

It doesn’t understand tropes, pacing, metaphor, or characterization the way writers do. It cannot do what we do. All it does is steal from us and regurgitate bits and pieces of our hard work in a nonsensical jumble.

You won’t get “updates” to your fics this way, even abandoned fics. All you’re doing is stealing.

And when we say STEALING we really mean STEALING.

You are taking not only the source material, the written work, but also the author’s narrative voice and allowing a company that owns an “AI” to take legal possession of it.

IP Law in America does suck, but if you’re going to go violating it please don’t do so in a way that screws over small creators in favor of large corporations!

friendly reminder that there are no minimum requirements you have to meet before you can write and post fanfic

  • you don’t need to be perfect in the language
  • you don’t need to have spectacular grammar and spelling and punctuation
  • you don’t need to have an intricate plot with subplots and red herrings
  • you don’t need to write a minimum number of words
  • you don’t need to be a “name” in the fandom
  • you don’t need to be caught up with every piece of canon content out there
  • you don’t need to be a superfan or know everything about every character

all you need is an idea and a willingness to write it down. the rest will come in time ❤

And nothing else has to come either. This is a hobby, the only thing you need to do is have fun. If you’re writing grows and improves great, if you never get any better great. The only thing that matters with fanfiction is that you have fun.

it’s so funny when people critique dark tropes and plotlines with “this isn’t appropriate, people ACTUALLY going through this” because the human condition is like. very much the point.

Yes, people are actually going through this, and after they’ve gone through it, they may want to process their feelings, and might want to process their feelings at a safe distance, which is often why they wrote the story.

bi4bination:

Yes, Ivy is canonically bisexual, yes, Harlivy is a bi4bi couple, no, this is not a loss for lesbian fans of Ivy: an essay by Mari

“I truly believe that lesbian fans of Ivy can still enjoy her bisexuality and Ivy being a sapphic and wlw character, even if it’s not the same representation they had anticipated.”

Synopsis: Mari discusses Poison Ivy’s bisexuality in the form of an essay, as a treat, because it is pride month, and she is a complete nerd and university student who actually enjoys writing essays in her free time

surprisedentistry:

i wish AO3 had, like, an option to tag certain characters as “main characters” or “side characters” because if you try to find fics about an unpopular character through their tag you end up browsing through like 3000 fics where one sentence mentions them scratching their ass in the background and that’s it

i’ll say it til the cows come home but as undeniably strange as the star wars prequels are, george lucas’ direction with anakin was downright fucking inspired. people were waiting for whatever badass backstory lucas was sure to give them, awaiting a naturally intimidating actor with rogueish charm to be cast, waiting for this masterpiece of badass villainy or whatever, and george lucas is like no, no, i’ve got you. and then he finds the one man on the planet who looked babier than baby mark hamill and says, “his main personality trait will be being weird and awkward, secondary personality trait loving his wife, tertiary personality trait being incredibly good at murder, and all of these traits will do battle on the silver screen for three movies until they all win in possibly the worst way.” that fucking rules. george lucas could’ve done anything with darth vader and he willingly, enthusiastically chose mentally unstable college student who is somehow married but his only friend is his kind-of dad. that fucking rules, top down, that’s fucking exquisite. if you don’t think that premise is inherently entertaining you’ve got no taste

why in god’s name is this the post that got notes, now i’m going to have to deal with people telling me TCW anakin is cooler. yes, that’s true, by an absolute order of magnitude. i’m not arguing that at all. of course TCW anakin is cooler, they intentionally made him more of a brash action hero guy. what i’m saying is that the anakin of the movies, who is deeply awkward in every situation imaginable, was a great fucking choice to make because i think that’s funny; imagine you have darth vader as a starting point, and you immediately decide he must have been picked last for jedi dodgeball because his only friends are his wife and his kind-of dad and they guy who wants to ruin his life. that’s pure comedy gold and clearly it goes unappreciated. george lucas stood in front of all those star wars fans and told them no, darth vader can’t flirt, or hold a normal conversation, or be normal about anything, and we should have appreciated how funny that was more than we did.

May I also point out that Clone Wars Anakin was still INCREDIBLY awkward when doing anything not involving fighting or spying on someone? And it does tie in to the version of Anakin we saw in Revenge of the Sith, so ya know what? It works.
